Each year, The Building Industry Association of San Diego, CA hosts the Icon Awards. These awards honor the best in the home design in the greater San Diego area. Awards are given out for a number of categories, including:
· Best Architecture
· Best Interior Design
· Best Landscape
· Best Sales/Leasing/Marketing Manager
· Best Engineer
· Best Custom Homebuilder
· Best Affordable Housing Project
The list goes on and on, with categories describing the type of project. For example, there’s an award for Best Architecture Design – multi-family residence and another for Best Architecture Design – single family homes. Square footage also plays a role in the awards, with various awards given out based design skill and lot size.
The 2013 Icon Award for Best Best Project Goes To…
This year, there were many honorees in the design categories. The winners received trophies for their innovative designs. Now, San Diego residents have some inspiration for the exterior and interior design projects.
Pardee Homes won the coveted Best Project of the Year Award for their Alta Del Mar luxury homes. These charming coastal San Diego homes feature classic facades and are built with luxury materials and “hand wrought details.” According to the Icon winners website, these homes cost between $1.85 million to $2.4 million.
The Pardee Look for Less
If you’re hoping to occupy a space as beautiful and innovative as the 2013 Best Project Icon winner, you’ll need the help of an experienced contractor and build team. The expert contractors at Ritz Design Build, centrally located in San Diego, say this on their blog about saving money on a build: “A simple rule in building is, build on the ground whenever you can, and leave the existing home alone whenever possible.”
This is going to help you save money.
For the exterior build, be inspired by Alta Del Mar by adding a side courtyard, outdoor flooring and some lush green trees. Lighting on the outside of the house, like a drop lamp above the front door, is also an inexpensive nod to the luxury estate. Inside the home, fireplaces make a quality addition, as do libraries. Modern libraries are only slightly bigger than a study. They include built-in shelving and are often painted white or another neutral tone.
The 2014 Icon Awards
The Icon Awards are held annually in San Diego to celebrate the best in local design. This year, they were held at the exquisite Hyatt Regency in coastal La Jolla, CA. There’s no word yet on where next year’s event will be held. Being that it’s still a full 11 months away, it makes sense that all the details haven’t been ironed out.
One detailed that remains true, the Icon Awards honor the best in the business. The building professionals, designers, salespeople and more are all recipients of this award. Homeowners are winners too – their properties are the foundation of this award show. Without the gorgeous homes, the competition wouldn’t exist.
Entering the contest is easy, but registration won’t begin until sometime next year. During that time, you can work on finding a contractor willing to help you build a beautiful dream home, something worthy of the competition. When the build is finished, judges will visit the property, taking photographs and ranking it against the other entrants.
This year, the highest honor was given to Altra Del Mar. Will it be your home next year?
